Running Water Anywhere On Your Property
Water line excavation is an essential step in any construction project or water maintenance operation. It involves the removal of soil, rock, or other matter to make room for a new water line.
A well-executed excavation allows for precise placement of pipes and fittings while reducing damage to your home landscape or existing structures.
Whether you’re building a new home or need to access an existing water line for repairs, we’re here to help with a fast and accurate water line excavation process.
Water Line Installation, Repair, Or Replacement
Running water is a necessity, regardless if it’s for livestock, agricultural work, irrigation, or household uses. If you want the benefit of running water for your lifestyle and home, you’ll need a water line dug for pipe installation.
Water line replacement may also be necessary if you’ve purchased new property, are expanding your current one, or when repairing your current water line is not cost-effective.
At Crush Excavation, we also install frost-free water hydrants for your agricultural needs.
Water Line Excavation FAQ
Water line excavation involves using different equipment to dig, move, and manage the soil during the installation or repair of a water line. Commonly used tools include excavators, mini-excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, trenchers, wheeled trenches, and pneumatic hammers. Depending on the nature of the project and the size and depth of the needed excavation, more specialized equipment, such as directional drills, may be employed to ensure accuracy and minimal disruption to surrounding land.
As with any project involving excavations, safety should always be a top priority when performing water line excavations due to potential risks associated with working underground or near high-pressure lines. Inspecting existing utility lines should be done before starting any excavation process in order to avoid accidental damage to adjacent services.
If you’re planning to upgrade your water lines or add a new addition where water is needed, just the trenching will cost between $1750-$2000 per 100 linear feet. This price includes labor and equipment. Any permit fees will add besides that.
In the state of Colorado, you may need a permit in order to dig a trench for a water line. The exact requirements can vary from municipality to municipality, so it’s important to check with local authorities before beginning any excavation. Generally speaking, if you are excavating more than five feet deep or within 50 feet of a public water supply line, you will need to obtain a permit.
In our area, 60” or 5 feet is where most water lines are buried for residential and agricultural use. 72” or 6 feet provides even more insurance for critical water lines. While we find many lines buried 36” and 48” (3-4 feet) deep, these lines can and often do have problems. Have you ever experienced that week-long stretch in the winter where temperatures are well below zero? That’s not the time to wonder where the frost line is.
My goal is always to provide a long term trouble free solution to your water needs.
